I am looking forward to discover new outlooks on the issue I chose to write my discourse on. I seem to be leaning toward writing on my role as a father. I have two beautiful daughters that are presently with their mom visiting family in Mexico. They have been gone for three weeks know and still have four more to go. I miss them very much and hopefully I can use their absence and the feelings they express in our recent phone conversations as inspiration in relating my thoughts on fatherhood.

As usual the class was very beneficial last Saturday. Although I had to leave early I still had many of my questions answered concerning the Mystory way of understanding text. It is interesting to know how text can create a mood that can be found in the “middle voice” and how it has the ability for a person to identify it and find their true identity.

If every one was in love like young Werther nothing would get done in the world. Goethes The Sorrows of Young Werther I found to be very interesting to read, it was much like watching a car accident on the side of the freeway. I can appreciate the way Goethe used letters written by Werthers to tell his story. I was grateful for the reflections on Werther excerpts, it helped me put into prospective the mind set of Werther, Goethe , and the young readers that the text influenced so much.

George W. Bush

3. How fortunate for leaders that men do not think.
Adolf Hitler

*

Come you masters of war
You that build all the guns
You that build the death planes
You that build the big bombs
You that hide behind walls
You that hide behind desks
I just want you to know
Theodore Roosevelt

John F. Kennedy

Adolf Hitler

George Orwell

4. Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival and the success of liberty.
John F. Kennedy

Every nation in every region now has a decision to make. Either you are with us, or you are with the terrorists.
George W. Bush

Justice will be served
This big dog will fight
When you rattle his cage
And you’ll be sorry that you messed with
The U.S. of A.
`Cause we`ll put a boot in your ass
It`s the American way

2. Americans play to win at all times. I wouldn’t give a hoot and hell for a man who lost and laughed. That’s why Americans have never lost nor ever lose a war.
George S. Patton

*

11. Our nation is somewhat sad, but we’re angry. There’s a certain level of blood lust, but we won’t let it drive our reaction. We’re steady, clear-eyed and patient, but pretty soon we’ll have to start displaying scalps.
George S. Patton

States like these, and their terrorist allies, constitute an axis of evil, arming to threaten the peace of the world. Do not destroy oil wells, a source of wealth that belongs to the Iraqi people. We’re steady, clear-eyed and patient, but pretty soon we’ll have to start displaying scalps. By seeking weapons of mass destruction, these regimes pose a grave and growing danger. War criminals will be punished.
3 The nationalist not only does not disapprove of atrocities committed by his own side, but he has a remarkable capacity for not even hearing about them.
George Orwell

No one likes us-I don’t know why
We may not be perfect, but heaven knows we try
But all around even our old friends put us down
Let’s drop the big one and see what happens
We give them money-But are they grateful?
No they’re spiteful and they’re hateful
They don’t respect us-so let’s surprise them
We’ll drop the big one and pulverize them

6. You can wipe out your opponents. But if you do it unjustly you become eligible for being wiped out yourself.
Ernest Hemingway

Adolf Hitler

Thanks for the reviews, the documentary sounds very interesting, I am looking forward to viewing the film in class this Saturday. I’m also excited to see the quality of a film that was produced using imovie editing software.

In reading the three reviews you are able to distinguish the differences between them. It’s obvious that all three are reviews; the difference is in the details that the writer decides to enter in the review.

The first review by Ruby Rich is much longer then the other three. It also gives much more detail and is explicate on the major facts in the life of Jonathon Caouette compared to the other two reviews. One example of the differences between the reviews is that Rich uses more quotes by Jonathen Caouette in his article. Riches review also delves into the background of the early success of the documentary and events that lead to its accomplishments.

After reading Transforming Shakespeare and Dim Lady I’m starting to see the entertaining value in transforming text writings. I can see how with some effort one can have fun and learn a new form of expressing their thoughts on different subjects. I must admit I should rethink the text I chose for assignment Two. The text is a little long but it can be fun and it’s from one of my favorite films. It may be difficult, but with a little more reading on the subject of text transformation I think ill be a little more confident in transforming the famous speech by George C Scott in beginning of the movie Patton.

After the Piston broke my heart and the Red Wings did their usual, it was refreshing to see that the tigers alive and well. They are going to make this summer a much more pleasant and enjoyable one. Ordonez is having a record breaking season along with the newest Tiger Gary Sheffield. My only concern is our pitching injuries. With Zumia and Rodney our two best relievers out on injuries our relief pitching is struggling and we actually lost a few games because of bad relief pitching. The gambler Kenny Rogers our ace starter is also out. We should see him after the all-stars when we are running on all cylinders and on our way to the playoffs.

I thought that the ideology items that were brought to class were very interesting and thoughtful. I was able to use some of those items to support my ideological essay. Some of my favorite items were the pictures of family members and books by authors, after doing some research on them I found to be very interesting and deep thinkers.

My personal items were a graduation cap, credit card, library card, newspaper, and a Beatles CD. These items to me represented an ideology of American democracy and the wonderful blessing it is to live in a country that allows us many freedoms. Graduation cap reminds me that because of democracy we are given the opportunity of achieving unlimited education if one works hard enough to achieve that goal. The library card made me think of the wonderful literature and access to information we can obtain in our local and college libraries around the country. The credit card is a symbol of capitalism that because of our democracy we are able to attain a lifestyle like no other non democratic country around the world. The newspaper represents freedom of press, a symbol of the basic rights that we are blessed to have our constitution. Finally the Beatles CD, because I recently saw an interview that President Putin of
Russia gave. In the interview he mentions that Western rock music was forbidden in Communist Soviet Union and how as a young boy he and his friends would sneak out records of the Beatles that were bought illegally in the black market and then listened to their music fearfully hoping that they would not be caught and punished by their repressive government.

The items that I selected to right about in my democracy essay are: the American Flag, the Bible, and a support our troop’s ribbon. They are pretty straight forward and I believe they demonstrate significant meaning for a democratic Ideology.

Who would have thought that the movie Bambi could do so much damage to little boys around the world? I saw the movie when I was a little boy, I must admit I thought Bambi was a girl or doe. Banks concludes that the movie Bambi is propaganda about how men and women ought to behave or, at least, stereotypical gender behavior that our culture deems most valuable.

He is probably right, movies, music, parents, friends, our culture teaches us what male and female behavior should be. In fact every culture that ever existed on earth had these male and female stereotypical roles in their society. Banks says this movie is only going to drive boys into deeper sexual stereotypes and that it will validate the worst attitudes of their adult world. I assume he means some male demeaning and dominating attitudes over women. I disagree.

The fact that men have a role in a society doesn’t make us a people that will consider women less of a person and should be governed by us. This type of bad behavior is learned through ignorance and by bad people not by a role that men are considered to imitate.

Why do Banks consider society’s male and female stereotypes bad? He says concerning male behavior “and in the explicit terms of one’s inescapable biology” if we are destined by biology to play these roles why should he feel that it is a negative condition to act like stereotypical boys and girls.

As a father of two little girls (7and 4) and a husband, I am very familiar with these roles and how important they can be. The qualities that both my wife and I bring to the picture provide a balance in our girls’ world. Trying to change each other to act more like the opposite gender would diminish the purpose of a marriage and the role parents play in their children’s lives. Our differences create a sense of stability and direction. They share traits from both their parents and knowing that society expects some differences from each gender will probably direct them to have less confusion in their own behavior, and a more balanced personality. Single parents may have a more difficult time providing this balance of expectations to their children as they raise them because they could only present the way one gender would react to different situations.
