I thought that the ideology items that were brought to class were very interesting and thoughtful. I was able to use some of those items to support my ideological essay. Some of my favorite items were the pictures of family members and books by authors, after doing some research on them I found to be very interesting and deep thinkers.
My personal items were a graduation cap, credit card, library card, newspaper, and a Beatles CD. These items to me represented an ideology of American democracy and the wonderful blessing it is to live in a country that allows us many freedoms. Graduation cap reminds me that because of democracy we are given the opportunity of achieving unlimited education if one works hard enough to achieve that goal. The library card made me think of the wonderful literature and access to information we can obtain in our local and college libraries around the country. The credit card is a symbol of capitalism that because of our democracy we are able to attain a lifestyle like no other non democratic country around the world. The newspaper represents freedom of press, a symbol of the basic rights that we are blessed to have our constitution. Finally the Beatles CD, because I recently saw an interview that President Putin of
Russia gave. In the interview he mentions that Western rock music was forbidden in Communist Soviet Union and how as a young boy he and his friends would sneak out records of the Beatles that were bought illegally in the black market and then listened to their music fearfully hoping that they would not be caught and punished by their repressive government.
The items that I selected to right about in my democracy essay are: the American Flag, the Bible, and a support our troop’s ribbon. They are pretty straight forward and I believe they demonstrate significant meaning for a democratic Ideology.
